Requiring exceptional precision the plan was for Mosquitos to conduct low level accurate targeting of the prison walls to help French and Allied prisoners escape. A rarity for the crews it gave them the opportunity to immediately save lives with an air operation. There is some controversy as to why exactly the raid was ordered and precisely who requested it to this day.
