Though overly simplistic, this description reflects the centrality of the mitzvot (commandments) in Jewish life, as well as the rabbinic conclusion that, in most cases, a person who performs a mitzvah for example charity without focusing on receiving compensation, has fulfilled his good deed in the best way possible.
